‘Family Feud’ Fans Outraged by False Steve Harvey Death Rumor

Over the years, the well-liked comedian, actor, and Family Feud presenter Steve Harvey has been the target of multiple death hoaxes.

Most recently, followers were confused and worried as rumors of his death spread extensively. Social media was inundated with posts from anxious fans who wanted to know if Harvey was okay.

Fans React To The Rumors

The rumors appear to have stemmed from an AI-generated post titled “Steve Harvey Passed Away Today: Remembering the Legacy of a Comedy Legend,” which was published on the “Trend Cast News” website and then shared on the NewsBreak app. The article, published on December 19, 2024, gained traction online, with screenshots of the piece becoming viral.

One user expressed disbelief, writing, “I woke up to this Steve Harvey passed ‘news’ and just reading the headline, I knew it was BS.” Another commented, “This NewsBreak app just posts/shares anything. I have a love hate relationship with this app. They want to be credible but allow whatever.”

On Instagram and other platforms, fans were equally vocal. Comments ranged from “Y’all, he’s alive” to “Steve, the news app over here telling people you died.” One fan humorously asked, “Steve, are you alive?”

Although Harvey hasn’t publicly addressed the latest hoax, he has a history of poking fun at such rumors. In July 2023, he posted a lighthearted meme on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a similar false report. The post featured Harvey scrolling through his phone, captioned, “Me seeing that RIP Harvey is trending.”

NewsBreak’s Apology

The NewsBreak app, known for aggregating content from various sources, was heavily criticized for sharing the misleading story.

A spokesperson for NewsBreak issued an apology, stating, “Our team investigates any content flagged as harmful or misleading and acts swiftly to remove anything that violates our Community Standards. We have removed the article in question and sincerely apologise to Mr Harvey and his family for any grief that it has caused.”

This latest incident underscores the dangers of AI-generated content when misused. The false story about Harvey’s death was not only shared widely but also climbed Google’s trending search list.

Many fans called for accountability, with one commenter suggesting legal action against the creators of the fabricated article: “You basically wished death on that man out here lying on that man’s soul like that. Ain’t that a [bitch].”
