The upcoming documentary is said to be the first work doing a deep dive into the life of the filmmaker and producer that he approved of and contributed to.
Among the list of people crying his praises in the docuseries are Johnny Depp, who he worked with on such projects as ‘Edward Scissorhands,’ ‘Ed Wood,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’ Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and its sequel), and Michael Keaton (Batman, Batman Returns).
The documentary will be directed by Tara Wood of ’21 Years: Richard Linklater’ fame, and is currently being shopped worldwide by WME.
“I have a dancing teacher who used to say to me, ‘Chris, show me something I’ve never seen before.’ and that’s what Tim does, everytime,” Christopher Walken says in the opening parts of the trailer.
“He’s an auteur, he’s a visionary, he’s an artist with images and thoughts,” Depp says. “He’s got a lot going on in there. Tim is the real thing.”
“I would love to take a trip inside his brain — this kingdom that is his heart where these characters live,” Ryder adds.
Other notable praises we hear in the preview: “He examines in a different way to make something that’s scary beautiful at the same time,” “There is no separation from how Tim feels and how Tim sees the world,” and “The fact that you can see him: the artist behind the movie and that’s why people really relate to it.”
Throughout the trailer, we are shown glimpses of some of Tim Burton’s most iconic works, from ‘Edward Scissorshands’ to ‘Beetlejuice.’
Per a statement, the currently untitled series marks “the first time the famed director has supported a project about his work and includes exclusive interviews, unpublished artworks and a never-before-seen stop-motion short film.”
