Because this year marks the 50th anniversary of the United States’ most notorious political scandal: “Watergate,” a new TV series and an art exhibition were created to mark the jubilee and reveal a rebirth of creative takes on the national disgrace that took place in June 1972, a burglary of the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC’s Watergate office building.
It was how the police caught the burglars in the act, that lead to an investigation that uncovered major abuses of power in Republican President Richard Nixon’s administration.
Based on the untold stories and forgotten characters from Leon Neyfakh’s podcast “Slow Burn,” the political thriller portrays the nefarious Watergate scandal of 1972, evaluating the relationship between Martha and John Mitchell (played by Julia Roberts and Sean Penn) as well as the events that climaxed in the break-in of the Watergate Office Building.
Gaslit – What Is It About?

Martha when sharing the stories of the corruption of the party and the truth of cover-ups from the White House, was always outspoken and not slow in coming forward. The President was left with no choice but to create a plan to silence Martha, but this only caused more tensions as John Mitchell must choose between his very important job and his wife.
