Gene Hackman Home Video & New Betsy Arakawa Autopsy Details

The news arrived in early March that Gene had passed away from natural causes because he suffered from advanced Alzheimer’s and severe heart disease. However, a lot of skepticism arose when the information about Betsy suggested she passed away from Hantavirus, a rare condition caused by rodent droppings.

Even a doctor felt skeptical because he claimed Betsy had contacted the clinic just a day or so before her death and didn’t sound unwell. However, authorities were sticking by the findings.

This week, The Sun US confirmed new information revealed that the “concert pianist had fluid accumulation in her chest and mild hardening of the vessels that supplied blood to the heart and body.” Additionally, COVID-19 tests were negative. Still, even the police seemed puzzled by the two deaths in the home.

The Home Video Footage

Recently, the New Mexico authorities released video footage recorded when the police entered the actor’s home to find out what was going on. Recall, it came after a welfare check request. Gene Hackman and Betsy had dogs, and one of the first things the officers came across was a “dog trying to protect” the bodies. 

The footage of Betsy Arakawa was heartbreaking because she passed away in a separate room from Gene, and a puppy also died. Even the police expressed their worried concern that something didn’t seem right. 60 Minutes Australia collated the footage with some of their own narrative for their show, which you can see below.

The Transcript From Police

The double death clearly made the officers who attended the home of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa feel suspicious. They noted that Betsy seemed to have no physical trauma at all.

In the transcript, the remarks made by them were, in part, as follows:

Right here, the dog, he’s guarding her… Where is [Gene]?… He’s actually, I don’t know how to get through there… Two totally separate areas… Oh, it’s strange…One dead dog… It smells like gas… It’s not on, but you can smell it… How many days has it been since last contact? Two and a half weeks, and nobody really sees them…

Reactions From Fans

Now that the police footage, autopsies, and full investigation seem complete, some theorists who suspected murder-suicide seem to have quietened down a bit.
