Lea Michele rose to fame when she portrayed the role of Rachel Berry in the musical series, “Glee.” Since then, she has been vocal about her dream of playing the lead role in the popular musical play “Funny Girl.” During her stay in the whole six seasons, Michele’s character sang most of the “Funny Girl’s” popular songs, including “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “My Man,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People.”
“Funny Girl” follows the woman named Fanny Brice as she reaches the peak of her career while dealing with her stormy relationship with the gambler, Nicky Arnstein. The Broadway show was first played by the popular singer, Barbra Streisand, in the year 1964 and got nominated for eight Tony Awards, including best musical.
Lea Michele – Takes the Lead On ‘Funny Girl’
It seems like dreams do come true when she finally landed on the role when the original lead, Beanie Feldstein, left the play last July 31. The 35-year-old actress brought to Instagram her excitement when she finally got the role of Fanny Brice on hand. She shared the poster of the new cast members of “Funny Girl” and expressed her gratitude for allowing her to be a part of an incredible play.
Jane Lynch, who is also a “Glee” alum, plays the mother of Fanny in the show. However, she would never be reuniting with Michele as she also announced her exit and will be replaced by Tovah Feldshuh starting September 6. During her interview with Deadline last month, Lynch expressed her delight in her “Glee” costar.
“I adore her. She’s just going to take this show and make it her own. I’m so glad she’s getting the opportunity in real life to do the show and not just on ‘Glee,’” Lynch stated.
