Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was in a similar circumstance to the Menendez brothers, recently offered some advice to the two.
Gypsy Rose’s History With The Law
Lyle and Erik Menendez have alleged that their father, Jose Menendez, sexually abused them while they were growing up. There is a possibility that the two could get a new trial and be released sooner than expected.
Gypsy Rose grew up believing she was ill and in need of various surgeries by mom Dee Dee. She was also given medications she did not need, which enhanced some of her symptoms.
After years of enduring this abuse, she began a relationship with Nick Godejohn, online. Godejohn had mental health issues, and Gypsy was able to convince the man to kill her mom.
Gypsy was sentenced to ten years in prison, while Nick received a life sentence. After she served 85% of her time, she was released in December of last year.
She’s currently moving forward with her life, and getting to spend more time with her father, whom she barely got to see while growing up. Still, Gypsy has had to transition into her new life on the outside, and she has experienced some bumps along the way.
Gypsy Rose’s Advice To Lyle & Erik
While Gypsy’s situation is similar, it isn’t exactly the same as Lyle and Erik’s. The brothers have been in prison far longer than Blanchard, but that didn’t stop her from giving them some friendly advice.
She recently told In Touch Weekly that, “It’s very difficult to come out to a world that has changed so much even in the time that I spent [in prison] … I would say take your time, you know, adjust properly. And get therapy because you need it in this kind of world [and] day and age.”
