Berry talked candidly about the delicate balance she attempts to find as a mom. She is the mother of two children: 10-year-old Maceo-Robert, who she has with her ex-Olivier Martinez, and 16-year-old Nahla Ariela, who she shares with her ex-Gabriel Aubry.

Berry Emphasizes Allowing Her Children To Grow Independently

While Berry admitted that she is “pretty protective” and will “fight for” her children if necessary, she emphasized that one of her main goals is for her children to grow into independent individuals. “I can’t wait until they grow up and have their own life, and I can’t wait to see who they’ll become and what they’ll do,” Berry said during the event. “I just want them to be them.”

She added that her pride in them will come from seeing them be themselves and pursue their own paths, noting, “There’s no spin on it. Anything they do will make me proud as long as they do it.”

Berry stressed the importance of raising children who are not reliant on her as they grow older. “I don’t want them to stay home and stay stuck to me. I don’t want them to depend on me. I hope I’m infusing them with enough gumption and giving them enough tools to go out into the world and make their own way,” she said.

Berry Talks Offering Support To Children Despite Wanting Them To Be Independent

Though her ultimate goal is to see her children independent, Berry also shared that she is always there for them when needed. She spoke about her daughter Nahla’s current emotional challenges, particularly as she navigates her first heartbreak.

“She just was in a thing and she got her heart broken,” Berry said. “Never gets easier. It’s just holding space knowing that this is all part of growing, right? We’ve all been there and knowing that in six months, she’s going to forget about it.”

Berry explained that, as a mother, it can be tough to witness, saying, “But in this moment, it’s the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup and she feels like she’s dying. A little part of me is dying and I can’t tell her that because she’ll just say, ‘Mom, you don’t understand.'”

To support her daughter, Berry has chosen to offer empathy rather than advice. “So I just have to say, ‘Yeah, this sucks, right? This sucks balls. I know, and you’re hurt.’ And I know I just have to sit in it with her, and that’s really hard to do.”
