Here are a few other reactions in the discussion about country singer Helen Cornelius:

  • I used to babysit her children when they lived in Hannibal, MO. She also sang at my wedding June12,1971. I loved her voice, and was happy for her successful music career. So sorry to hear of her passing and will keep her family in my prayers.
  • So sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. Met her and Jim Ed at Fan Fair many years ago. And always enjoyed hearing them sing. I miss the good ole days when the performers actually took the time to visit with their fans, not like today’s performers.
  • I never got to meet her. I loved her music and beautiful voice. I especially loved her singing “I don’t want to have to marry you” with Jim Ed Brown. They were two of my favorites.

How Did She Rise To Fame?

Helen Cornelius grew up in a family with brothers, and they started playing in country bands. Her musical group included sisters Judy and Sharon, making up a trio of singers, and they became known locally as entertainers. But her big break came in the 1970s when she signed with Columbia Records.

Her first big hit was a duet with Jim Ed Brown in 1976. Soon, I Don’t Want to Have to Marry You trended on Billboard. However, once she went solo, Helen also did well, and people may recall her singing Whatcha Doin’ After Midnight, Baby.
