Hoda Kotb is gearing up for an exciting new phase of her career as she prepares to say goodbye to the Today show.
After 26 years with NBC, the 60-year-old journalist recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she offered a glimpse into what lies ahead.
Kotb Talks Future Plans
During the Monday, January 6 episode, Kelly Clarkson humorously opened the conversation by asking Kotb about her future plans. “I was like, ‘So what’s that b–h doing?’” Clarkson quipped. “Because there’s no way you’re not doing anything.’ You’re me, you like problems, you like working.”
Kotb laughed and admitted, “I like things, So, I kind of got hooked in the wellness space, like a couple of years ago. I started doing stuff that I thought seemed woo woo and weird, and then all of a sudden as I was doing it, I was like, ‘Wait, I feel calmer, I feel better.”
Clarkson enthusiastically agreed, adding, “Woo woo makes you feel good!” Kotb echoed the sentiment, smiling as she shared her plans to create a wellness-focused app and company. The initiative, which she described as being in the “building process,” will feature retreats, a podcast, and other transformative experiences.
“it’s not like going to Mexico with your girls, which is fun, but this is something that when you leave, you’ll go like, ‘Oh my gosh. I feel transformed. I feel different,” Kotb explained. She revealed that the project is slated to launch this spring, emphasizing her goal to help others slow down and embrace wellness.
Facing Change And Embracing Fear
While Kotb is excited about her new venture, she admitted that leaving the Today show is bittersweet. Reflecting on her decision, she shared, “I’m terrible with goodbyes. When you’re madly in love with something, but you also know that it’s time for something new, that’s where it gets hard for me.”
The journalist likened this transition to “re-potting” a plant, saying, “It’s like being pulled up by your roots—everything that grounds you—and planting yourself in a new space.”
Back in October, Kotb confessed on Today with Hoda & Jenna that the move was both “terrifying” and “exactly right.” She explained, “Whenever I made a leap, a move, a jump — it was, like, I’m falling in love. When I moved to this town, I’m falling in love. I’m going to fall in love with a place, a restaurant, a friend, I’m going to meet a boyfriend.”
Prioritizing Family And A New Vision
Kotb’s decision to step away was also deeply personal. During an emotional announcement in September 2024, she shared that turning 60 was a pivotal moment. “I started thinking about that decade. Like, “What does that decade mean? What does it hold? What it’s gonna have for me?,” she said. “My daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie. I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited.”
Insiders revealed that Kotb had long been inspired by her former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, who left Today in 2019. “Kathie Lee Gifford has lived since quitting – she’s had a boyfriend, written a play, books, music, she even wrote and starred in a movie,” a source shared.
A Fond Farewell
Kotb’s final Today episode will air on Friday, January 10, marking the end of an era. Her departure has sparked celebrations, including a surprise reunion with 70 of her Tri Delta sorority sisters and a heartfelt gift from her co-host Jenna Bush Hager—a painting by Kotb’s favorite author, Charlie Mackesy.
Though saying goodbye is never easy, Kotb’s optimism and passion for her next chapter shine through. As she embarks on this transformative journey, fans can look forward to seeing her create a community focused on wellness, growth, and connection.
