Reports said that after Hope’s arrest, cops took her into custody in the parking lot of a Walmart in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Cops say she was booked for impaired driving (DWI), resisting arrest and misdemeanor child abuse. Cops said her twins were in the car when authorities pulled her over.
Hope was later released and she took to her Twitter to tweet “On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”
Hope Solo – Suspended
Back in 2016, Hope Solo was suspended from the Women’s National Team for six months, due to the negative comments she made about the Swedish soccer team during the Rio Olympics after the Sweeden won American in the women’s tournament quarterfinals.
While speaking with sports writer Grant Whal, calling Hope called the opposing team “a bunch of cowards,” she had the viewpoint that “the best team did not win today.” She said at the time “I thought that we played a courageous game. I thought we had many opportunities on goal. I think we showed a lot of heart, but I also think we played a bunch of cowards… Sweden dropped off. They didn’t want to open play. They didn’t want to pass the ball. They didn’t want to play great soccer… I don’t think they’re going to make it far in the tournament.”
U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said in a statement regarding their decision that Hope’s remarks were “unacceptable and do not meet the standard of conduct we require from our National Team players.”
Gulati continued “Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we’ve had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. National Team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action.”
When the news of her suspension and contract termination broke, Solo took to Twitter to explain that “For 17 years I have dedicated my life to the U.S. Women’s National Team and did the job of a pro athlete the only way I knew how– with passion, tenacity an unrelenting commitment to be the best goal keeper in the world, not just for my country, but to elevate the sport for the next generation of female athletes. In those commitments, I have never wavered. And with so much more to give, I am saddened by the Federation’s decision to terminate my contract.”
Hope Solo – Was Booed At Olympics
Asides Hope’s vague remarks about the Swedish soccer team, she also faced a squabble before the Rio Games even began and that was because she shared a series of Instagram pictures where she was wearing a mosquito netting over her face and holding a huge bottle of insect repellent which she captioned with the hashtag “#ZikaProof.”
Many in Brazil found the posts to be offensive, leading to Solo being met with a loud chorus of boos and insults every time she touched the ball during a game.
