Katy Perry recently opened up about the “pretty scandalous” look at her backstage life as her Las Vegas residency kicks off with larger-than-life acts and costumes. And yes, I’m digging the giant toilet and toilet rolls.
Katy Perry Gives An Inside Look At Her Backstage Life Performing And Parenting Her Daughter
Despite public assumptions, backstage life for Katy Perry when she is about to grace the spotlight has been the same since she first rose to stardom.
In a recent chat with PEOPLE about her latest brand De Soi — her new line of sparkling ready-to-drink non-alcoholic apéritifs with natural adaptogens — the 37-year-old singer also opened up about “Play”, her very first Las Vegas residency, and what goes on behind-the-scenes before each of her scheduled performances.
“Well, people think backstage is pretty scandalous, but for me, for a decade, it’s pretty much been the same,” Perry told PEOPLE exclusively. “We’re just getting ready, we’re eating well, we’re doing a pre-show workout. We’re doing lots of different business things and really sticking to the meditation.”
“So the [things] that I do, and have done for over a decade, has given me a lot of help with fatigue and exhaustion,” she recalled. “Especially getting through these shows, because I think this is probably the most physically grueling show I’ve done.”
Katy Perry Talks Bringing Daisy Dove Backstage
Daisy Dove, Katy’s daughter with her partner Orlando Bloom, gets to see her mom transform into her onstage persona as the singer brought her along to Las Vegas.
“Daisy’s with me all the time and she loves seeing mama get ready and turn into the character,” the “Firework” singer said. “And I get to give bath time between 6:00 and 7:00. It’s a great routine. I thrive on routine.”
Perry kicked off the Las Vegas residency show “Play” late last month and it has already earned rave reviews from critics. The pop star is scheduled to play shows all through March at Resorts World, which opened on the Strip in June, and whose theater only opened last month in time for Carrie Underwood’s residency. Katy performs with interesting costumes, massive props, dancers, lights, and fantastic visuals, including the aforementioned giant toilet, a colossal rubber duck and an oversized can.
Every night, the singer treats her audience to hit songs from each of her studio albums. Fans can dance and sing along to hits like “Firework”, “Dark Horse”, “Legendary Lovers”, “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Roar”, “Waking Up in Vegas”, and “I Kissed a Girl”.

Perry Calls “Play” “All of My Biggest Dreams”
Katy Perry called her experience performing the Las Vegas residency “amazing” and beyond her wildest fantasies. “It’s all of my biggest dreams, because it’s larger than life, coming true,” she told PEOPLE.
“It’s just wild. It’s a combination of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids meets Pee-Wee’s Playhouse,” Perry continued. “I play a doll and everything is larger than life. And it’s a bit trippy, I would say.” “It is a show you can really only see in Vegas because I could never bring a 30-foot toilet on the road. There would be no semi-truck that would hold it,” she added with a laugh.
