How Many Children Did Dolly Parton Have?
Parton was a legend in the country music industry, as she had sold over 100 million albums, wrote over 3,000 songs and in 2022, she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She has also won thirteen ACMs, ten Grammys, and nine CMAs as of April 2022.
Just one short week ago, on August 21, Dolly announced that she was dealing with her declining health ever since her longtime partner, Carl Dean, passed away back in March 2025.
Dolly’s nephew, Brian Seaver, made the death announcement on Instagram. “My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” Seaver said in a video.
“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it til now,” he added.

And while Dolly Parton was known as a true icon and American legend, she and her husband, Carl Dean, did not have any children. The singer and songwriter credited part of her musical success to the freedom of not having kids.
She once famously said, “I didn’t have children because I believed that God didn’t mean for me to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine.”
