If you haven’t watched ‘Vampire Diaries,’ please exit the stage because I’m about to start spoiling everything. It might not be a tangled web of love and relationships like the type The Kardashians exposed us to, but it has its complicated ups and downs regardless.
Paul Wesley Didn’t Like That These Two Characters Had A Relationship In ‘The Vampire Diaries’
For six seasons, Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert was the main star of the show, and during that time, her love life was deeply explored alongside her supernatural adventures.
For one thing, at the very beginning, she fell in love with Paul Wesley’s Stefan Salvatore, prompting one of her best friends Caroline (played by Candice King) to date the roguish and bad boy older brother Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder).
A few episodes down the line, and Elena starts developing feelings for Damon, creating a love triangle. After a few back and forth, she sticks with Damon, leaving the stage wild open for Caroline and Stefan to develop romantic attractions for each other. But if you ask the star who played Stefan for the series, he would never have arranged that love match.
How did we know this?
Somerhalder, 46, appeared on the Tuesday, March 4, edition of Hot Ones Versus alongside his Brothers Bond Bourbon co-founder and former ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ co-star Paul Wesley, 42.
During their conversation, things veered towards the supernatural world they embodied for years, with Somerhalder asking Wesley if it were up to him, which storyline “should’ve never made it out of the writer’s room.”
“After Nina [Dobrev] left the show, they were like, ‘We need to pair Stefan with some romantic partner’ and then Stefan and Caroline (Candice King) ended up having a wedding and getting married, right?” Wesley replied – a sentiment that may well shock some fans even as others agree.
Shaking his head in agreement, Somerhalder said, “Oh yeah, it was a little forced, but it was cute.”
If not for anything else, Wesley did admit that “it was cute.”
However, Somerhalder had already figured out the reason why the storyline wasn’t a complete disaster, and he pointed it out, saying, “she’s pretty and you’re pretty.”
The supernatural series ran for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017.
