Radcliffe played the role of Harry Potter in the movie series from 2001 to 2011, and fans are curious whether he will participate at some level in the reboot.

Daniel Radcliffe Gives His Blessing to Successor

Daniel Radcliffe is giving his blessing to whoever is lucky enough to play Harry Potter in the TV reboot. He is excited to pass on the torch.

On whether he will even make a cameo, Radcliffe has this to say to ComicBook.com: “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.”

“So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it,” Radcliffe added.

Harry Potter TV Series

In April this year, it was officially announced that there is a reboot of the hit film series Harry Potter happening after the successful 7 books and 8-part films.

Max has made a 10-year commitment to create a TV adaption based on J.K. Rowling’s books. J.K. Rowling also serves as executive producer of the TV series.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” Rowling said.

The TV format allows for longer adaptation, so Potterheads can expect the stories to be as close as possible to the novels. Each film was based on each book, but HBO Max plans to take a different route.

“For 10 consecutive years, people will see Harry Potter on [Max],” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said.

“Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, per Variety.

Public Backlash

There’s just one hiccup in the future of the Harry Potter TV series. The project has been receiving backlash for naming J.K. Rowling as executive producer. In recent years, Rowling has made statements that are deemed transphobic.
