The song started with a guitar sound on a slow tempo followed by Shawn’s Signature Vocals. The first verse says “You never know how good you have it, oh/Until you’re starin’ at a picture of the only girl that matters, aah.”
The song picked up at the chorus part which was about him wanting to hold on. “Hold on/I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone/I don’t wanna move on/I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone for good,” he sings in the chorus, seemingly referencing his recent split. “You’re slipping through my fingertips/A little bit, by a little bit/I didn’t know that loving you was the happiest I’ve ever been/So I’m just tryna hold on.”
Shawn Mendes’ – Song Isn’t To Musically Shame His Ex Camila
On April 1 episode of Daily Pop, Shawn told Erin Lim of E! News that Camila already heard the song back when they were dating, that he would never put a song about her out first before she hears it. Shawn said his relationship with Camila is an honest one.
“She knows me and I know her, and ultimately, we both are writers and we both know what it is to make music and what the bigger picture of making art is,” he shared. “We’re supportive of that, always.”
Explaining his relationship post-breakup, he revealed “You’ve got to give yourself a lot of grace to kind of be a little bit of a mess, and that’s okay, and then, you have to look around at the people who are there and not the people who aren’t.”
Shawn Mendes And Ex Camila Cabello – From Start To Split
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello first made headlines together back in 2015. They weren’t a couple then, they did a musical duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Four years down the road, they did another duet “Señorita” which was a hit in June, and it raised eyebrows over whether there was a romance brewing behind the scenes.
In July, the two were spotted holding hands in West Hollywood while out together and it rumored they told people they were a couple. While the two had not publicly confirmed their relationship status, this steamy makeout in the Miami water did all the talking.
Shawn Mendes – Señorita
At the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, Camila and Shawn stole the show with a sexy live performance of “Señorita” as viewers waited to see if they would kiss. In October 2019, it was rumored that they broke up but they laughed it off by letting their romance be on full display as they made out courtside, throughout a basketball game.
On SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up in August, Shawn revealed he and Camila get into fights from time to time. “We definitely fight, and we get in like the worst little arguments,” he said. “But, like, I think that we definitely are pretty good at picking up on when it’s just ego talking. And we like, usually like call each other out. We have a really honest and open relationship—but, yeah, no, we definitely fight.”
The couple announced their split on Nov. 17, 2021. As they jointly wrote, “we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for on another as humans is stronger than ever.” The pair added, “we started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.”
