Is Sylvester Stallone Too Old To Play Rambo In A Sixth Installment?

No one can doubt that Sylvester Stallone had a great run playing one of the most fierce and beloved heros onscreen, but his run has sadly come to an end.

This does not mean that the franchise is wrapping up with the 2019 installment “Rambo: Last Blood.” He’s only just passing the torch to a new and younger Rambo – you know, like Daniel Craig did after portraying the iconic James Bond across five movies. Here’s what we know about a sixth “Rambo” installment.

Brand New Rambo Reportedly In the Works With All New Characters

Plans are already being made to bring back the iconic Rambo character that made his debut in 1985 with “Rambo: First Blood.” While plans for a sixth installment haven’t exactly reached a head, the movie is making a return in another, equally grand, way.

Plans to develop the movie into a series has reportedly been underway for as far back as 2013. However, even then, there weren’t plans for Stallone to return as John Rambo.

In 2022, whilst speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone expressed firm belief that the series will not be scrapped, saying: “I think it’s going to happen. I wanted to do it like a Ken Burns documentary on Vietnam, where you drop young Rambo in there and he’s this outgoing guy, football captain, and then you see why he becomes Rambo. But what they want to do is a modern-day story where I pass the torch. That’s getting close.”

Sylvester Stallone Pitches “Barbie’s” Ryan Gosling As His “Rambo” Successor

While there hasn’t been any major update on the series since then, Sylvester Stallone, 77, did recently name the actor he feels is worthy enough to step into the chaotic world of veteran Rambo.

During his latest appearance on The Tonight Show, he was asked to pick an actor he would want to see replace him as Rambo on The Tonight Show, by which he scrupled not to pick “La La Land’s” Ryan Gosling.

“I met [Ryan Gosling] at dinner. Obviously we are opposites. He’s good looking. I’m not. Seriously! Could you imagine me as Ken? It doesn’t work at all,” he replied when he was asked the reason Ryan was his first choice to play the US Army Special Forces veteran.

He continued: “Ryan goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo and people would chase me away and I still didn’t stop. He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo, And I thought, you know, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”
