There sure are a lot of similarities between the two. A lot of people can’t help but wonder if the new Max show, The Idol, is about Britney Spears and her very headline-grabbing and controversial life.

Thankfully, one of the show’s stars, Lily-Rose Depp, sets the record straight on whether or not there truly are any parallels between Britney and her on-screen character, Jocelyn. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Is “The Idol” Based On Britney Spears?
Speaking to Extra in a new interview, Lily-Rose admits that while there might be some similarities, the show is not based on Britney Spears and her life.
She put it this way, “No, it’s not based on anyone in particular… We’re definitely not trying to tell anyone else’s story, but definitely create one of our own. This is a fictional character and fictional story.”
Lily-Rose continued, “There were a lot of different people that I was inspired by for this role. Some that were pop stars, some that were not. I wanted Jocelyn to feel simultaneously like a modern-day pop queen of today but also like somebody that kind of existed in her own world and in her own kind of time so I drew a lot of inspiration from actresses like… Gene Tierney and Sharon Stone and women like that that I find really inspiring.”

Britney Spears Is Acting Paranoid
Meanwhile, there was also a recent report that suggested Britney Spears is struggling with a lot of her paranoia. She feels as though someone is going to take her freedom away at any given time and that’s why she sleeps with a knife under her bed. If that weren’t enough, she’s also refusing to get any help because of it.
One source said, “She swears there’s nothing wrong with taking precautions, and all this fuss about knives and not sleeping is totally exaggerated. It’s no wonder Sam’s living elsewhere.”
The situation certainly has Britney’s husband Sam Asghari worried, too. The insider added, “He loves her and wants so badly to make this work, but the situation is rapidly becoming unbearable, even for a tough guy like him. It’s horrific.”
