Recently, an X account “Wizarding News” which was originally created as aHarry Potter” news aggregator in 2002 but ultimately switched to “reporting on the demise of J.K. Rowling’s legacy,” after the author made it clear that she’s anti-LGBTQIA+, made bold claims about Rowling’s family on the platform that was formerly known as Twitter.

At first, the 22-year-old fan account revealed that Rowling has a daughter who had to change her last name just to “get away” from her.

The post read, “Reminder that JK Rowling’s eldest daughter (the one with whom she was famously pregnant while writing Harry Potter) changed her last name to literally get away from Rowling, and moved to Portugal.”

The post went on to add pictures of a lady that seemingly claimed to be the “eldest daughter” in question. As if the revelation didn’t sink in well enough, the account made another tweet 18 hours later asking its followers, “Did you know? JK Rowling is a grandmother. Have any of you ever seen her talk about grandchildren?”

J.K. Rowling — On Rowling’s Response And Threats

Well, for an account that once stood by Rowling, it should have known that Rowling wouldn’t sit back, fold hands, and watch while a false narrative is formed about her, let alone about her own child.

Taking to her X account, the 58-year-old replied, “This is not a joke. The baby and its mother have no connection with me, @wizardingnews. That isn’t my daughter. Your vendetta against me is causing collateral damage to innocent people. If legal action is the only way to protect them, I will take it.”

She went on to make a follow-up post explaining in detail how wrong and untrue “Wizarding News” claims are. Her post read, “I’ve done everything I can to keep my children out of the public eye. My eldest daughter doesn’t owe you or anyone else details of her private life.”

She continued, “However, for the avoidance of doubt: 1. Contrary to your claims, we are very close and last talked an hour ago. We discussed your posts, which have angered and distressed her. 2. Contrary to your claims, she doesn’t live in Portugal. 3. Contrary to your claims, she has no children. 4. The young mother whose photograph and personal details you published is not my daughter and has no relation to me whatsoever.”

She further added, “You’ve published easily disproven and damaging falsehoods. Should we go to legal proceedings, you will need to show why, in spite of being told the truth, you neither retracted nor apologised. In the absence of any such retraction and apology, the next communication you receive will be from my lawyer.” She concluded with, “I want a retraction and apology, or we go to lawyers,”

J.K. Rowling — How The Fan Account Reacted To Rowling’s Response

I bet it wouldn’t be so surprising to hear that the fan account was every bit unapologetic about the false claims they made on their post. They were however apologetic to Rowling’s eldest daughter for dragging her into their issues with her mother. The account revealed that the photos which were alleged to be Rowling’s daughter had been taken down.

The “Wizarding News” post shared they “Deleted the post with photos and link to that Instagram hours ago, Jo. Glad you seem to be self-aware enough that you’re now publicly acknowledging the hate your bigoted rhetoric engenders.”

The account went on to apologize to Rowling’s daughter, “We are unreservedly sorry… to JK Rowling’s eldest daughter… for understandably mixing her up with a VERY coincidentally named person found in multiple published online articles & biographies identifying her as such, and extrapolating & sharing inaccurate details therefrom.”

“Guess you could say we were following JKR’s example: ‘researching’ something & then immediately regurgitating it, [in our case unintentionally] spreading what some consider to be harmful falsehoods about others… which is what Rowling does to LGBTQ+ people daily.”

“We were wrong about some information today, and owned up to it,” they wrote. “Just curious… when’s the last time J.K. Rowling apologized for posting something offensive or outright wrong, and retracted it?” With that question, they pledged that their attacks would no longer involve Rowling’s family members but solely focus on Rowling alone.
