Will Smith – Calls Oscars Slap ‘Horrific’

However, amid all those smiles, the actor recently shared that he has not forgotten what happened at the Academy Awards. When Chris Rock joked about Jada, Will walked up to the stage and slapped the comedian. And now Smith looks back on that moment as a horrible occasion.

“That was a horrific night, as you can imagine. You know, there’s many nuances and complexities to it. But at the end of the day, I just — I lost it, you know?” Will admitted.

And the actor shared what he learned. “You just never know what somebody’s going through, you know? In the audience right now, you are sitting next to strangers,” added Smith. “And somebody’s mother died last week. Somebody’s child is sick.”

As a result, Will reflected that “there’s all these things” happening with individuals in an audience. “And they’re strangers, and you just don’t know what is going on with people,” pointed out the actor. ” I was going through something that night. Not that that justifies my behavior at all,” noted Smith.

But the actor also reflected on how violence he viewed at home impacted him in the present. And Will shared that the slap resulted from “the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother. All of that just bubbled up in that moment,” added the actor. “I just — that is not who I want to be.”

But although Will has apologized, Chris Rock has made no plans to return the communications, shared an insider. And the source shared that the apology timing seemed to benefit Will. Smith “needs the public’s forgiveness, not Chris,” pointed out the insider.
