During the 94th annual Academy Awards, Chris Rock was one of the presenters and he happened to make a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head that was due to extreme hair loss or alopecia. However, the “Girls Trip” star wasn’t delighted by the statement, which led Will Smith to climb up on stage and slap the Saturday Night Live (SNL) alum in front of the crowd.

A day after the incident, the “King Richard” actor posted an apology statement on his social media account for showing “unacceptable and inexcusable” behavior at the Oscars. He publicly apologized to Chris Rock, the Williams family, his “King Richards” family, and the people behind the Academy for his wrong and “out of line” action.

Jada Pinkett-Smith – And Will Smith Agree He ‘Overreacted’

A source told Us Weekly that Jada wished that her husband didn’t slap Chris Rock, “It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.”

It was also said that the “Hawthorne” actress doesn’t need her husband to defend her because of her ability to protect herself. “She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman, and she can fight her own battles, but she will stand by him,” the source said.

Chris Rock’s Brother Rejects Will Smith’s Apology

In other news, Chris Rock’s brother, Kenny Rock, talked about the commotion and he was devastated seeing a loved one being attacked in front of the people watching around the globe and he can’t do anything about it. Kenny also believed that if only his brother knew about Jada’s illness, he wouldn’t make a joke about it.

When asked about his opinion regarding Will Smith’s apology, he said: “I might have looked at it differently had he initially apologized when he got on the stage and cried and accepted the award, but he didn’t, so right there, that tells me that it is something else,” Kenny told Los Angeles Times.

“I don’t accept his apology because I don’t think it was genuine. I think his publicist and the people that work under him probably advised him to do that,” he continued.
