Girls Trip 2 writer, director, and producer Tracy Oliver also co-wrote the original script in 2017. And Oliver discussed the enthusiasm of Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish. But she also promised, “Girls Trip 2 [is] officially happening. I can say that.” And Tracy offered a plot update as well, noted Variety.
However, Oliver joked that the film’s producer Will Packer “might kill me” for spilling details. But the Girls Trip writer shared that they plan to “set it in Ghana.” And Tracy also revealed that Jada and her co-stars hope to attend the annual Afrochella festival.
Known as Ghana’s premiere cultural and music event, the festival has drawn leading musical acts such as Beyonce collaborate Shatte Wale.
But Oliver has not yet submitted her script. As a result, the Girls Trip 2 production timeline remains an unknown. Lee directed the film, with Packer producing. And Oliver co-wrote with Kenya Barris from a story they conceived with Erica Rivinoja.

And when the producer, Packer, appeared on Good Morning America, Packer promised the sequel to the popular 2017 movie. “Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway,” Packer shared with Good Morning America host Michael Strahan.
The producer promised that the stages of achieving the sequel to Girls Trip had begun. “We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in, I just talked to the director,” he added.
