Jada is not holding back on 2022’s most buzz-worthy moment, “the Oscars slap heard around the world.” And she’s got as much surprising news about the moment as we could ever hope for.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE promoting her upcoming book, “Worthy,” – out Oct. 17 – the actress spilled the beans.
“I thought, ‘This is a skit,’ ” Jada, 52, she told PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
Will, 55, struck Chris, 58, for making fun of his wife’s bald head, which came about as a result of her battle with alopecia.

However, despite Will’s act of chivalry, Jada’s first words to him when they were alone was “are you okay?”
Will had since apologized multiple times for the slap, telling the Daily Show last November that he simply “lost it.”
Jada would go on to reveal that she and Will had been living separate lives since 2016 and were only there as a “family” rather than as husband and wife.
