Jamie Dornan’s 50 Shades Of Grey Handcuff Jokes Never Get Old

Jamie DornanJamie Dornan, the star of Fifty Shades of Grey, A Private War, and Belfast, was honored by The Ebell Club in Los Angeles for his role in Belfast, a 2021 semi-autobiographical film from Kenneth Branagh about an Irish working-class family during the 1960s.

The actor noted that previous honorees get a highlight reel from moments in their acting careers but, since he didn’t receive one, he’s going to improvise by acting out his whole career for the audience to see.

He said: “In the absence of a reel, I’m just going to act out my entire career. Only the things you know best,” he proceeded to whip out a pair of handcuffs, in a nod to his role in the Fifty Shades of Grey films. While holding the cuffs, he said “I’m going to need a participant from the audience.”

Jamie Dornan  – Some Movies Jamie Dornan Appeared In

Apart from his starring role in the film Belfast, Jamie has appeared in a lot of films like Fifty Shades of Grey, Robin Hood, The Fall, Once Upon a Time, Marie Antoinette etc.

Speaking with PEOPLE on Thursday, on the green carpet, ahead of the Oscar Wilde Awards, Jamie said he was initially “slightly non-committal in a good way” by not rushing to move to the U.S. as he found his footing in Hollywood.

“It was always, just come out, spend a lot of time here, take on a load of meetings,” he continued. “So the longest I ever did was probably four or five months or something, maybe even three or four months, to be honest, in the early days.”

Jamie went on to say that at a point it felt like slightly non-committal, but that it was in a good way because if he failed, he wouldn’t feel really bad as he was yet to move to there.

He explained that backing himself made it possible for him to be able to make something happen. He explained that he always felt that he has something to offer, and that things needed to fall into place. He believed he needed a lot of luck at the time and luckily, it eventually worked out.

Jamie admitted being proud of the “important message” he helped to convey in his latest film Belfast — which is up for seven awards at this Sunday’s Oscars, including Best Director for Kenneth Branagh, 61, and Best Picture.

In his conversation with PEOPLE, he said that he is beyond proud to be from that part of the world, and to tell a story that resonated with so many people across the world, and maybe change some people’s opinion of that part of the world, in the north of Ireland and Belfast, along with the world’s perception of the people and the countries’ hard-working families.
