On April 12, the Internet was hit with the news that Foxx had undergone an emergency health scare. Few months later he gave an update on his recovery and appreciated the heartfelt wishes sent to him by his friends and fans.

The actor who was honored at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements on Monday couldn’t help but look back at what he went through while at the hospital. During his acceptance speech for his Vanguard Award for his performance in “The Burial” the 55-year-old said, “I want to thank everybody.”

He then proceeded to say, “I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things, It’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago.

I couldn’t actually walk too….” While struggling to hold back tears, Foxx continued, “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different. It’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s tough when you almost… When it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel.”

Amid his speech, Foxx tried to lighten the mood by saying, “I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel so I didn’t know where I was going. S—, am I going to the right place? I seen the devil goin ‘C’mon, now.’”

Few weeks after Foxx’s health scare news, the media published that the “Django Untamed” actor’s family was preparing for the worst. Even after Foxx’s 29-year-old daughter Corrine Foxx debunked the news, a rumor that the Foxx who made a video to appreciate his fans for their support was a clone began spreading.

Although the “Project Power” actor addressed the rumor in a July 21 Instagram post saying, “Some people said I was blind, but as you can see the eyes are working, the eyes are working just fine. I’m not paralyzed, but I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back and I’m able to work,” apparently the rumor didn’t cease.

Foxx made sure to address the rumors once again at the Critics Choice Celebration with a touch of humor to go with it, “I know a lot of people who were saying I was cloned out there. Boy, y’all ain’t s—,” he joked. “Black people, when we almost die or go through something like that, there’s two phrases, one of two phrases we say,” Foxx continued. “One is, ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus. Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’ “

After thanking his family and friends, Foxx ended his speech with, “I want to say six months ago I couldn’t fathom that this could happen or that I would be here, but as I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’”
