Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals Why She Deleted Her Account on X (Twitter)

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis has formally departed from X, the social networking site that was formerly known as Twitter. Curtis shared her choice on Instagram on November 13 along with a screenshot attesting to the termination of her account.

The sentiment she gave in her caption is well-known: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.”

Coincident in Stepping Back From X With ‘The Guardian’

Curtis’s departure, 65, coincided with a similar announcement from The Guardian, which also shared that it would be stepping back from X.

In a statement on its website, The Guardian remarked, “We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.”

The news organization also pointed out the platform’s trend of amplifying “disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.”

While Curtis didn’t elaborate on her reasons for leaving, her exit follows a larger trend among public figures leaving X, particularly since Elon Musk took control in 2022.

Other celebrities, including Elton John, have also departed from X. The “Rocketman” singer wrote during his exit, “All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together.

Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world,” noting that he no longer wanted to be part of a platform where misinformation is unchecked.

Curtis’s Influence Spread Beyond Acting

Curtis’s influence has always extended beyond her acting roles. Known for her advocacy and positivity, she often uses social media to promote kindness and compassion.

This past July, she shared an Instagram post with a simple yet powerful message: “Note to self: Be kind, be kind; be kind.” She connected this motto to her role in The Bear, a popular FX and Hulu series, writing, “My @thebearfx colleagues have just posted a beautiful little message about nonnegotiables! KINDNESS IS MINE!”

In 2022, while promoting Everything Everywhere All at Once, Curtis emphasized kindness as a core value. “INSIDE all of the upset and conflict and turmoil in all of our lives rests this simple and profound concept. Kindness. Simple kindness to others,” she posted. She celebrated the film’s message, noting that it was a “perfect, sweet, juicy” reminder of humanity’s potential for empathy.

On November 6, Curtis reiterated the importance of her brand’s mission: “Our Mission is to bring people together to express our shared values and become a powerful source for change.”
