Jamie Lee Curtis And Nicole Kidman – To Star In New Show Based On Bestselling Author Patricia Cornwell’s Book
The upcoming TV adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s popular Kay Scarpetta crime book series will be starring two of Hollywood’s leading actresses, Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.
This Monday, the “Everything Everywhere All At Once Star” star chatted with PEOPLE at the 95th annual Oscar nominees luncheon about her “excitement” to be Kidman’s sister in the upcoming crime series.
“It’s part of my goal now is to expand into more of a creator, producer,” she shared. “And Nicole is the star of the show, and I’m going to play her sister Dorothy.”
Curtis then noted that “a very combative relationship” exists between her and Kidman’s character on screen, adding, “So I think she and I will be having some good conflict — just like families [do].”
All We Know About the TV Adaptation Of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta Books
Per a report by Deadline, Kidman, 55, will play the medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta and Curtis will play her whimsical sibling in the Amazon series.
Both actresses will executive produce the project, under their respective production houses: Kidman under Blossom Films and Curtis via her Comet Pictures company and her first-look deal with Blumhouse Television.
It is said that the series entering production may have come about due to Curtis’s close friendship with Cornwell.
Cornwell happily shared the casting news on Instagram with the picture of Kidman, 55, and Curtis, 64, on top of some of her popular books, writing: “Scarpetta friends, we’ve waited 33 years for this…”
In all the 26 books Curtis has written for the series since 1990, Scarpetta is described as the beautiful, tough-as-nails forensic examiner, who has a messy love life and a penchant for opera and Italian cooking.
She was also the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia for many years before relocating to Massachusetts.
Two years ago, Comet Pictures and Blumhouse Television acquired the rights to the Scarpetta book series. Curtis had already been brought on to executive produce the project at the time, but it wasn’t clear whether she would be starring in it.
