The release of thousands of secret documents about Jeffrey Epstein brought problems for powerful people in the UK and the US. In Britain, police actively charge famous people with crimes. In America, the rich avoid fallout by quitting their jobs or paying money to settle lawsuits. Who else sits under scrutiny? Read on for updates.

In The UK

In the United Kingdom, police investigations and legal action replace mere speculation. The news so far, focused on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Lord Peter Mandelson.

In the case of former Prince Andrew:

According to multiple UK news outlets including the BBC, authorities investigate the former Duke of York for “misconduct in public office.” They look into claims that he shared secret government information with Epstein while serving as a special trade representative.

Regarding Mandelson:

Reports from The Guardian indicate that after his arrest, prosecutors believe Lord Peter Mandelson, while serving as Business Secretary, allegedly leaked Downing Street emails and market-sensitive information to Epstein. Recently, he stepped down from the House of lords.

Police Officers Under Review

London’s Metropolitan Police also confirmed an investigation into whether then-Prince Andrew’s security team ignored his visits to Epstein’s private island, Little St James.

Per the BBC , a former senior officer raised concerns that some protection officers may have turned a “blind eye” to the trips. Other allegations arise that they also turned a blind eye to unvetted women being allowed into the various royal palaces.

US: Executives Resign Or Pay Settlements

In America, the wealthy currently handle the Jeffrey Epstein connection through boardrooms and checkbooks rather than courtrooms. Meanwhile, others apologize.

According to financial news reports, billionaires Thomas Pritzker (Hyatt Hotels), and Hollywood agent Casey Wasserman, stepped down from their companies after embarrassing emails surfaced.

Meanwhile, court records show  that Darren Indyke, Epstein’s longtime lawyer, and Richard Kahn, his accountant, agreed to a $35 million settlement. Notably, the payment might resolve lawsuits accusing them of aiding the trafficking ring.

Actually, it might shield them from further civil liability, not that a settlement helped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor with Virginia Giuffre. They face a Congressional hearing per Bloomberg.

Big Hitter Apologized

Big name Bill Gates apologized last month. Fox Business news reported that during a Gates Foundation town hall meeting, he said he was ever so sorry that he failed to vet Jeffrey Epstein properly despite the whole world knowing he was a convicted sex offender.

Notably, his wife apparently had some reservations. Anyway, victims can maybe take some comfort because he said, “I apologize to other people who are drawn into this because of the mistake that I made.”

In Europe

According to a Reuters investigation published February 6, 2026, the Epstein document release also implicated several prominent figures across Europe.

In Norway, former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland faces an aggravated corruption investigation. Reuters reports that authorities examine his alleged continued association with Epstein following the financier’s 2008 conviction.

In France, prosecutors opened an inquiry into ex-culture minister Jack Lang and his daughter Caroline. The investigation, detailed by Reuters reportedly centers on suspicions of aggravated money laundering connected to proceeds from tax fraud.

Emails from the released files affect others, as well. According to the same Reuters report, they show Jack Lang had business ties with Epstein, including jointly establishing a company. The revelations ended up with Lang resigning as president of the Arab World Institute.

Meanwhile, his daughter subsequently stepped down from her leadership role at France’s Independent Production Union as well.

The fallout extended to Norway’s diplomatic corps. Ambassador Mona Juul, who held posts in both Jordan and Iraq, was suspended. Her case follows disclosures in the Epstein Files indicating lots of contact with him.

Different Approaches

The contrasts with the USA and elsewhere raise questions. Does wealth and corporate influence in the US offer a different kind of justice than the aggressive approaches taken in the UK and Europe? Or, is it just a question of time before things heat up stateside?
