Jenna Ortega Hates All Of The Scrutiny She Gets From The Media

She might be one of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry these days, but even Jenna Ortega says that she can’t deal with all of the scrutiny that comes with being in the spotlight.

The actress, who is best known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series, says that social media has definitely left a negative impact on her mental health. Here’s what she has to say.

Speaking to Variety magazine in an interview with Elle Fanning, both women spoke about the manipulative aspects of social media and all the pressure that it places on people who are in the public spotlight like themselves.

And because she often likes to speak her mind, Jenna says that she has to be careful because some of her quotes can easily land her in hot water.

Jenna put it this way, “Because I naturally tend to be sarcastic or dry, it’s very easy for me to find myself in trouble. I want people to be able to get to know the people behind the camera and realize that people should never be put on a pedestal. And the more I’ve been exposed to the world, people prey on that and take advantage of that.”

She continued, “They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way that you don’t always expect. [Starts to cry] It’s so strange. Sorry, I didn’t mean to do this. I still have this really intense urge to be human and honest and authentic. Another thing about this industry is you get in front of a camera and people want you to be something else — where it’s ‘Have more energy’ or ‘Could you smile?’ I would rather people see me cry and do whatever than be something I’m not.”

That might be one of the reasons why Jenna is so careful with some of the things that she posts on social media for her 40.6 million followers. In fact, she seems to post more promotional stills and professional photos of herself than her own candid ones.
