“Beetlejuice 2” Theatrical Release Date Revealed

The classic horror movie is aiming to bring its appeal to a whole new generation of people after the movie hit it big in the 1980s, when it went on to inspire an animated series that ran for over three years.

Slated for a Sept. 6, 2024 release – the same day as Marvel Studio’s Mahershala Ali’s “Blade” – some of the original stars will be returning, alongside brand new faces including “Wednesday’s” Jenna Ortega.

Rather than being a reboot of “Beetlejuice,” “Beetlejuice 2” will be a sequel to the popular 1988 supernatural comedy — which starred Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder alongside Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara and Geena Davis.

While details for this sequel are still under wraps, it is understood that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will be reprising their roles as a mischievous “bio-exorcist” known as Beetlejuice and the goth Lydia Deetz. Jenna Ortega will be appearing as Lydia Deetz’s daughter.

In 2016, Tim Burton shared his interest in working on a continuation of the horror classic, saying, “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right,” Burton said at the time. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel]… it’s something that if the elements are right—because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see.”

What Connects Our Favorite Teen-goth “Wednesday” To the Upcoming Horror Classic “Beetlejuice 2”

If we told you that “Beetlejuice 2” and our fave “Wednesday” will have more than just Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton in common would you believe us?

Well, you’ve got to, because we’re right. As if the scary world of “Wednesday” and the scarier world of “Beetlejuice” didn’t have enough in common, the script for the sequel will be written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the co-creators and writers of “Wednesday!” That “Beetlejuice” Easter egg on “Wednesday” is starting to make a whole lot more sense.
