The show was Ortega’s breakout role and skyrocketed her to international fame.

At just 20 years of age, Ortega became the second youngest actress to earn a nomination in the category for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. The youngest to be nominated is Patty Duke for her work in the 1964 series, “The Patty Duke Show.”

After the nominations were announced, an excited Ortega reacted by posting an adorable picture of her and Gwendoline Christie as their “Wednesday” characters, writing, “What wonderful news to hear the Wednesday team has received twelve Emmy nominations.

I’ve been so fortunate to witness first hand the incredible time/effort being put in by our cast, crew, writers, and directors, and feel so excited to be able to share this with them. @televisionacad, thank you for the honor, it’s a pleasure.”

The hit Netflix show earned a total of 12 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series. After helming classic movies like “Beetlejuice” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Burton’s first Emmy nomination came from his directorial work on Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
