Jenna Ortega Teases New Characters In Netflix Wednesday’s Second Season

New location, new look and new friends, enemies and frenemies for Jenna Ortega‘s “Wednesday.” That is triple, no quadruple, the excitement. The goth in us is so ready for our princess of creep to return.

Jenna Ortega – On the Changes Fans Can Expect To See In “Wednesday” Season 2

Already, we’ve learned that this second season will be leaning more into horror and ditching any romantic interest for Wednesday, and that’s all a good thing in our books. Who doesn’t want to see a darker and more gritty Wednesday?

“I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero,” Ortega told fans in her March 2023 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I think we want to up the horror aspect of it a little bit and then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation and just let her be her own individual and fight her own crime.”

However, apart from upping the action and the horror and eliminating any romantic interest for Wednesday, her look was also something that had to change to more or less mirror the intensity of the second season.

“We tried silver streaks in my hair, short, tiny braids, really long, thick braids. We just tried all different variations and at some point the hairdresser… he brought out a clip of fringe,” said Ortega. While the look worked for the character, Ortega, a true Wednesday at heart, had a better one; “’Hey, maybe just cut my actual hair.’”

Jenna Ortega – On All The “New Characters” Joining the Show’s Second Seasons

We lost a couple great characters towards the end of the second season that some of us – me included – were inconsolable for days after watching it.

Off the top of my head, there’s Principal Weems, the therapist, and maybe maybe not Christina Ricci’s Laurel. So to make up for this, more exciting characters are joining the series.

“Reading scripts has been exciting, seeing all of the new characters that are coming in,” Ortega said in her Vanity Fair’s 2024 cover story. “We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world. Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires and da-ta-da. And I think we expand on that a little bit.”
