Jennifer Garner recently shared her admiration for farmers on Instagram in honor of National Farmer’s Day, but her love for chickens was a different story.
The 52-year-old Deadpool vs. Wolverine actress posted a lighthearted video series on Saturday, Oct. 12, featuring both heartwarming and humorous moments from her family’s farm.
Garner’s Funny Chicken Encounter And Love For Farming
In one of the clips, Garner can be seen riding a toy tractor, dressed in blue jean overalls, with a real chicken hitching a ride on a cart behind her.
As she turns, the chicken unexpectedly jumps onto her head, causing her to exclaim, “I don’t like this.” Garner then humorously added, “I don’t have that much love for chickens,” followed by an exaggerated cough.
The chicken video in the post drew significant attention from her fans, who couldn’t stop laughing at the unexpected farm animal mishap.
“The chicken on your head video you posted is hilarious,” one fan wrote as another admitted they “laughed so hard” watching the footage.
One fan said they “almost choked” on a snack while watching the video, while another said they “full on panicked when the chicken hopped on your head .”
“This is too funny! ❤️,” one Instagram user wrote.
“Was that fowl behaviour?” another fan joked.
The chicken had clearly “decided” that it would have “a better view on top of your head,” one person teasingly suggested.
The Instagram post, which included several other videos and pictures, showed Garner participating in various farm activities. In another clip, she planted a tree, kissing it and revisiting it over time in a timelapse video. There were also scenes of her harvesting sweet potatoes, driving a real tractor, and working with farm machinery.
Garner shared sweet moments of planting crops with her parents, including her late father William John Garner, who passed away in March. One photo captured her laughing while planting beside him, and another showed her parents, William and Patricia Ann Garner, wearing matching overalls.
“Farmers are the heart of our country, Happy #NationalFarmersDay! Love from your biggest fan, Farmer Jen ,” Garner captioned the post.
Garner’s Farming Heritage
According to The Oklahoman, Garner’s family owns Locust Grove, a farm in Oklahoma that her grandparents purchased in 1936.
In 2017, Garner bought the land from her uncle Robert, using it to grow crops for her nutrition company, Once Upon a Farm. Pumpkins are the farm’s primary crop, but the land also produces blueberries, field peas, rye, and wildflowers.
Garner has spoken candidly about her family’s challenging past, explaining that her mother grew up poor on the farm. She shared that her family often cooked with canned pumpkin because it was affordable. Her mother, Patricia, expressed her joy at seeing the farm revitalized and used to grow produce for babies.
“Of anything I’ve ever done, this means the most to my mom — that her farm is being brought back to life, and it’s growing things for babies. It’s just the coolest,” Garner said.
Garner has frequently spoken about the family farm, sharing in a previous post that her uncle Robert and his wife Janet tend the land and grow organic vegetables for Once Upon a Farm. While they are the company’s smallest supplier, Garner noted that they “deliver on goodness and fun.”
During an appearance on Good Morning America last October, Garner reflected on her connection to farming, saying her favorite task was driving the tractor.
She also credited her mother for instilling in her a love for the land. “My mom was such a farmer girl and so we always were at Farmer’s Markets, we always had a huge garden, and she’s always just taught us the closer to Earth, the closer to the sunshine, the more you’re gonna love it,” Garner said.
