Jennifer Lopez On Adjusting Her Life After A Severe Breakdown

Jennifer Lopez On Adjusting Her Life After A Severe BreakdownIf you called Jennifer Lopez a jack of all trades, you wouldn’t be much off the mark. The mom of two is a singer, dancer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman and host. She’s been able to flow with the unpredictable tide of fame for many years, and that left her “feeling invincible”. But a panic attack forced her to adjust her lifestyle and work schedule.

Jennifer Lopez On Why She Chooses “Pro-living” Against Anti-aging

Jennifer Lopez, 52, recently opened up about what it’s like to be the ageless and beautiful face of the entertainment industry. She recalled how torturous her young years were from suffering severe panic attacks brought on by exhaustion.

In the latest edition of her “On the JLo” newsletter, the star advocated for the importance of sleep.

“There was a time in my life where I used to sleep 3 to 5 hours a night. I’d be on set all day and in the studio all night and doing junkets and filming videos on the weekends,” she wrote. “I was in my late 20s and I thought I was invincible.

“Until one day, I was sitting in a trailer, and all the work and the stress it brought with it, coupled with not enough sleep to recuperate mentally, caught up with me.”

Lopez recalled the scary moment, saying that she “went from feeling totally normal to thinking about what I needed to do that day and all of a sudden I felt as if I couldn’t move.”

“I was completely frozen,” Lopez wrote. She said she “couldn’t see clearly” and the physical symptoms “started to scare me and the fear compounded itself.” The singer added: “Now I know it was a classic panic attack brought on by exhaustion, but I had never even heard the term at the time.”

Lopez said she was scared as to regards her sanity before a professional eased her fears by telling her that all she needed was a few extra hours of rest everyday.

“My security guard on set came in and picked me up and drove me to the doctor. By the time I got there, I could at least speak again and I was so terrified I thought I was losing my mind,” Lopez recounted. “I asked the doctor if I was going crazy. He said, ‘No, you’re not crazy. You need sleep … get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night, don’t drink caffeine, and make sure you get your workouts in if you’re going to do this much work.'”

Jennifer Lopez Talks About How She Sacrificed Her Health to Build Her Career

At the time, Lopez was engaged in doing a couple of different things to further her career. She prioritized work on her now massive lifestyle empire, her debut studio album “On the 6”, and a rising acting career that included a Golden Globe-nominated performance in the biopic “Selena”, as well as her first marriage, over her health.

“I realized how serious the consequences could be of ignoring what my body and mind needed to be healthy — and that’s where my journey to wellness began,” she said of letting her own self-care needs go completely in favor of a successful career.

The “Marry Me” star has since prioritized her mental and physical wellbeing in order “to live a very healthy and balanced life,” calling her current philosophy “pro-living versus anti-aging.”

About that JLo glow that everyone wants to learn the secrets of, she said getting a good night’s sleep is one of the main reasons. “Sometimes I wake up and say, ‘Wow! I just lost 10 years off my face!’” she added.
