Jennifer Lopez Praises Donatella Versace’s Strength After Role Change

Care to know who Donatella Versace’s biggest fan is? ‘Papi’ hitmaker Jennifer Lopez, that’s who. After being at the helm of Versace for nearly 30 years following the 1997 murder of her brother Gianni Versace, the fashion designer will be stepping aside.

Lopez is in awe of the impact Donatella Versace has made to the fashion world and the mark she’ll likely keep leaving behind even as she closes a long and brilliant chapter.

“Gianni would be so proud. What a journey you have been on,” Lopez, 55, wrote a day after it was announced that Donatella would be stepping down from her role as Versace’s creative director.

“You are strong, resilient, powerful, talented and I am so happy that I have gotten to know you over the years. Together, our journey and the friendship that we have formed has been incredible,” continued Lopez.

Per the press release, Dario Vitale will be taking over as the chief creative officer of the Italian brand on April 1, while Donatella will go on to serve as its global ambassador. Prior to his new role, Vitale had worked with Miu Miu as the design and image director.

Lopez further wrote in her message to Donatella that she knows her “next chapter will be filled with love, happiness and friendship…and whatever you want to create it to be.”

She concluded the message with the sweet reminder, “I am always here for you… @donatella_versace .”

Lopez and Donatella have possibly forged a tight-knit friendship through their many years of working together. One of their most notable and history-making collaborations happened at the 2000 Grammy Awards, when Lopez graced the red carpet in a nearly naked jungle-print dress.

20 years later, and Lopez did a sort of throwback by attending Versace’s Spring 2020 Fashion show in an updated version of the dress.
