Jennifer Lopez Stars In New Netflix Movie ‘The Mother’

Now that Jennifer Lopez is married to Ben Affleck, one of the most mainstream actors of our generation, it only makes sense that the singer is returning to acting. 

Aside from her American Idol judge gig and TV cameos and appearances mostly as herself, it has been quite a while since we saw Jennifer Lopez on the big screen or small screen for that matter.

Netflix released new artwork and a promo this week for their highly anticipated Mother’s Day movie “The Mother,” starring the iconic Jennifer Lopez.

Per People Magazine, “Jennifer Lopez is back in action.  The Golden Globe nominee stars in the first full trailer for her new Netflix movie The Mother, shared exclusively with PEOPLE. In it, Lopez plays an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she was forced to leave behind because of her dangerous job.”

Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael Garcia Bernal also appear alongside J-Lo in Netflix The Mother.

This is actually Jennifer Lopez’s first major acting gig since the early 2000’s and a slew of straight to DVD films and horrible reviews led to Lopez retreating from Hollywood and sticking to her music roots.  Could the time off have hurt or helped Jennifer’s chances of succeeding in acting?

Honestly, it sounds like the perfect role for Jennifer Lopez.  And, we aren’t the only ones who thing so.  Accredited director Nick Caro told People, “Jennifer brings her legendary skill and precision to the action elements, but also brings her strength as a dramatic actor and her experience as a mother right to the heart of the movie.  I knew Jennifer was the only actress for the role.”
