Jerry Adler was probably best known for The Good Wife, and when the news arrived that he died this week, his long career got kudos. Interestingly, he came to the acting world late and then stayed much longer than anticipated.
Cast For One Episode Only
The Hollywood Reporter delivered the sad news that another icon had passed away. He was 96 years old and will be remembered for his acting, which was a late-career turn after working behind the scenes. It seemed very interesting that he took to being on stage and in front of cameras after a long time of working backstage.
Despite having a good connection with his cousin, Stella Adler, a tutor in the art of stagecraft, he was 60 before he landed a significant role. He also became famous for The Sopranos.
Interestingly, it was The Good Wife creator Robert King who shared how a single episode became a long-running character role as Howard Lyman. He ended up acting in 101 episodes. But that wasn’t the original plan.

An Impressive Actor
On X, formerly Twitter, Robert King wrote:
Jerry Adler died yesterday. The intent was only to have him for one episode of THE GOOD WIFE, but he was so funny in a diner scene, yelling “I said ice cream, you stupid bitch” we had him back for six years of Good Wife and three years of Good Fight. One of our favorite collaborators.
He was funny and endeared many fans to the older man. Many of them wanted to remember him in the comments section because laughter really is the best medicine. It’s something he will be remembered for, even though he played the role of a law partner.

- always a scene stealer.
- So sorry to hear this, Robert. Loved him.
- He was wonderful. You always need a good ‘vilain’, but he mixed in befuddled and cantankerous. A great actor.
