If you’re one of those fans thinking that Jim Carrey broke his own promise to retire, just know that he had a perfectly good reason. He needed money. See? I told you he had a good reason.
Jim Carrey – Explains Why He Had To Play Two Characters In ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Despite Retirement News
Some things are beyond our control and that thing for Jim Carrey is sticking to his plans to retire.
Carrey had a great career run in the 90s, playing some of our favorite heroes and villains across dozens of movies. Remember ‘The Mask?’
Yup that was him, and you may not remember him because of the costume and well, the green, but he also played one of our favorite Christmas characters The Grinch in the 2000 movie, ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’
His characters were always a joy because of the eccentricity that he brings to each character, and this is why he was the perfect person to play the villain Dr. Robotnik in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog.’
However, shortly after his role as Dr. Robotnik in the franchise’s second installment, he announced his desire to retire from acting.
“If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break,” he told Access Hollywood in 2022.
The break was short-lived, as it didn’t take two years for media outlets to confirm that he would be returning in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’ In fact, his return saw him pulling double roles, that of Dr. Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
At the London premiere of the beloved videogame adaptation, Carrey genially told the Associated Press that he returned, not because the script was too good to pass up, but because the money spoke to him. He said: “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And I just, I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly.”
Carrey also previously revealed that he pulled off his two ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ characters with the same pay he got when he was playing just one character. However, he did not disclose his payments from the movies.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ will be premiering on December 20, with the great Keanu Reeves voicing a brand new character called Shadow.
