When “Margaritaville” musician Jimmy Buffett died, reports at first did not include what caused his death at 76. But now insiders via Page Six have revealed that Buffett died of cancer.

And the musician first received a diagnosis of skin cancer four years ago. Since then, he fought a secret health battle.

But sadly, the disease then progressed to lymphoma. And that caused Jimmy’s passing, shared insiders. But a source also noted, “He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively.”

And prior to Buffett’s death, he had gone on hospice. Among those gathering to visit the musician at his home, Paul McCartney went there and sang to him. And Jimmy’s social media accounts shared the news of the singer’s death.

Jimmy Buffett – Missed ‘Beyond Measure’

As the Grammy nominee’s social media revealed, “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

Those surviving Buffett include his wife, Jane Slagsvol, daughter Savannah, daughter Sarah and son Cameron. And celebrities have honored Jimmy on social media.

For instance, Kenny Chesney wrote on Instagram, “So goodbye Jimmy. Thanks for your friendship and the songs I will carry in my heart forever. Sail On Sailor.” And Elton John paid tribute to Buffett as a “unique and treasured entertainer. This is the saddest of news. A lovely man gone way too soon.”

And Paul McCartney turned to Twitter to share his own memories. “It seems that so many wonderful people are leaving this world,” he noted. “And now Jimmy Buffett is one of them.” And McCartney honored Jimmy for his “amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humor. When we swapped tales about the past his were so exotic and lush and involved sailing trips and surfing and so many exciting stories that it was hard for me to keep up with him.”

But fans flocked to honor Jimmy as well. For example, one shared, “He’s gone way, way too soon. I know of at least 4 generations who loved his music. When my mother was dying he sent an autographed picture with a note on her favorite song…”Slow Boat To China.” She was thrilled. We miss you Jimmy.”

And another fan commented, “Just loved Buffett’s upbeat music. Always made me feel happy and wanting to dance around.” Some fans also reflected on the singer’s life. For instance, one pointed out, “Jimmy Buffett lived one of the greatest lives of all time. He had a wonderful family life while flying, travelling, sailing, and touring around the world singing happy and fun songs to adoring audiences. Only in America !!! God Bless.”
