John Goodman has reportedly sustained a hip injury while filming alongside Tom Cruise in a new Warner Bros. project directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. The incident briefly paused production, but Goodman is expected to make a full recovery, allowing filming to resume soon.
A Brief Setback in Cruise’s Latest Project
The untitled film, currently being shot in the UK, is Iñárritu’s first English-language project since The Revenant (2015) and boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the film has been generating buzz, especially as Cruise’s first collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery since signing a development deal with the studio in early 2024.
According to Deadline, the injury occurred last week at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where Goodman reportedly slipped while blocking a scene. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed the incident, stating:
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover.”
The 72-year-old Big Lebowski star was taken to the hospital as a precaution but was soon released. He is expected to return to set on Monday, March 10, ensuring minimal disruption to the film’s schedule.
Cruise’s History With On-Set Injuries
While this delay wasn’t caused by Cruise himself, the actor is no stranger to production setbacks due to injuries.
His commitment to performing his own high-risk stunts has led to multiple incidents, the most notable being during Mission: Impossible – Fallout, when he broke his ankle attempting a daring jump between two buildings.
That mishap resulted in a six-week delay, though the film still made its original release date—ironically, even incorporating the footage of Cruise’s injury into the final cut.
Goodman’s injury, in contrast, was not stunt-related and appears to have been an unfortunate accident during routine filming.
While the specifics of how he slipped remain unclear, the good news is that the delay will be brief, allowing production to move forward without significant setbacks.
Goodman’s Role in Cruise’s Star-Studded Cast
Goodman, known for his versatility and scene-stealing performances, is widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most accomplished character actors. His inclusion in the cast adds further depth to the project, as he joins a lineup of talented co-stars.
Despite this minor setback, fans can expect Goodman to bring his signature charm and gravitas to the film. As anticipation builds, many are eager not only for updates on Goodman’s recovery but also for more details on the closely guarded storyline.
With filming set to resume next week, all eyes remain on Iñárritu’s ambitious project—one that promises to be a major cinematic event upon its eventual release.
