John Wick 5 Enters Early Development As John Wick: Chapter 4 Tops $360 Million Globally

The “John Wick” franchise is continuing to retain its global appeal, with the fourth installment soaring to over $360 million in global box office.

This has indeed motivated the team to bring forward the production date of the next installment, as film chief Joe Drake said during an earnings call.

He also confirmed that the upcoming installment will feature the growth of the assassin franchise, but one thing that fans can always count on is the enduring “cadence” of John Wick.

Joe Drake Says Spin-offs Will Affect the Fifth Installment of “John Wick”

“John Wick” has got multiple spin-offs in the works right now, including feature film “Ballerina” and tv series “The Continental,” and, according to Joe Drake, their storylines will affect “John Wick 5.”

“What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including five and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon,” he said Thursday during a Q4 earnings call. “We’re building out the world and when that 5 movie comes, it will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”

The fourth installment of the Keanu Reeves-led movie’s success reportedly inspired the team to consider coming back for a fifth time.

“It’s very flattering for them to come back and, you know, say ‘We want more’ and it’s not just a cash grab. It’s legitimately the audience wants more,” Chad Stahelski, who directed “John Wick: Chapter 4,” said in an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Behind the Screen podcast series. “I think we all need that little bit of time to go, ‘Whew. Let’s see what’s next.’ … If Keanu and I, a few months from now, sit down at a whiskey bar in Japan again and go, ‘Yep, we’ll never do another one of those,’ and then all of a sudden go, ‘Yeah, but I got an idea,’ we’re open to it.”

The ending of the fourth installment was open-ended, thereby leaving the audience wanting more, as well as setting it up for a follow-up.
