Johnny Depp And Amber Heard – New Fighters For Heard Appeal
According to the New York Post, Heard, now 36, brought on two new attorneys David Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown, from the national law firm Ballar Spahr. The pair of lawyers successfully represented former Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission chair, Sarah Palan, in her defamation suit against the New York Times.
The attorneys will be with Heard as she fights to overturn the unfavorable results in the bombshell Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation case. The results, handed down to her by a jury earlier this year, were automatically appealed by Heard’s attorneys. The Virginia attorney Elaine Bredehoft who represented the actress at the explosive Fairfax, Virginia trial, is now reportedly off the team, according to a Heard spokesperson.
Johnny Depp And Amber Heard – Lawyer Choice Deemed Good Move
A Texas attorney who followed the trial said that she had expected the lawyer change and noted that Heard would benefit from it. Katherine Lizardo told The Post, “This is a good move for her because it would give her a different point of view legally from trial counsel.”
According to Lizardo, Appeals attorneys are a “different breed” of lawyers, experts in the “nuanced and specialty” field of law. “If Amber Heard did not hire an attorney that was familiar with the appellate system, then she would lose,” she said, noting that it requires a certain level of tenacity to argue an appellate case.
Apparently, in the Virginia appellate court, each side is only given 15 minutes to speak before a three-judge panel. “Elaine Bredehoft’s style at trial and her time management issues wouldn’t work for appeal,” Lizardo explained, adding, “We saw when Elaine would ramble on or argue unrelated matters and that would be very detrimental if she argued similarly in front of the court of appeal judges.”
