Johnny Depp And Amber Heard – Trial Judge Finalizes Verdict!
The judge heading up the trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp closed the door to a possible settlement on Friday. And the judge also finalized the verdict. However, Amber’s spokesperson indicated that she will appeal, noted Yahoo News.
The finalized verdict follows the jury finding earlier this month that the actor and actress defamed one another. However, jurors sided with Johnny’s allegations against Heard. As a result, Depp received an award of $10 million in compensatory damages. And Johnny also received an additional $5 million in punitive damages.
But in contrast, Heard won only one victory among her three counter-claims. That win resulted in $2 million in compensatory damages. In the wake of the jury verdicts, Judge Penney Azcarate had given the actor and actress until June 24 to settle. Azcarate planned to enter that settlement rather than the verdict. But since the estranged exes did not agree, the jury’s verdict stands.
Amber Heard And Johnny Depp -To Appeal?
In the wake of Azcarate’s verdict, Johnny Depp’s lawyers issued an objection to the $2 million judgment. As a result, speculation soared that Depp will appeal. And Heard’s representative also discussed her desire to appeal. However, Amber’s spokesperson referenced politicians seeking a pardon.
“As stated in yesterday’s congressional hearings, you don’t ask for a pardon if you are innocent,” the actress’ representative stated. “And, you don’t decline to appeal if you know you are right.” Because of Heard’s belief that she remains innocent, she reportedly will appeal the verdict.
However, one of Depp’s attorneys, Benjamin Chew, discussed the advantages of Amber declining to appeal. Chew indicated that Johnny might forego the money if Heard would vow to let go of her desire to appeal. But Amber insists that her testimony alleging Depp physically abused her remains truthful. And adding to Heard’s desire to appeal, she reportedly cannot pay the $8.35 million balance that she owes to her ex.
But Amber faces a challenge in risking an appeal, noted TMZ. As a result of the judge’s decision, Heard’s appeal must include the posting of a bond. And that bond needs to represent all of Depp’s judgement as well as six percent. The additional money serves as interest for the delay.
