Johnny Depp – Makes Return to Film After Amber Heard Defamation Trial
According to MARCA, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is set to return following his dramatic defamation trial. An industry source says that there have been discussions about the movie, “Jeanne Du Berry” debuting at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.
New promo images for the film are now making their rounds. In them, Depp looks quite regal as the 18th-century French monarch Louis XV alongside actor/director Maiwenn Le Besco, who plays King Louis’ mistress, Jeanne du Barry (via Daily Mail).
Johnny Depp – Star-Studded Cast?
The film had an 11-week shoot, taking place at studios as well as famous French locations like the Palace of Versailles where Louis XV was born (via Deadline). The movie will chronicle the story of the King of France’s last royal mistress Jeanne du Berry, who though born into poverty managed to rise on the social ladder using her intelligence to become Louis XV’s favorite companion, the outlet reported in August 2022.
Le Besco, 46, stars alongside Depp as Jeanne du Barry in the biopic. She also co-wrote the film in addition to directing. In August PEOPLE reported that WhyNotProductions and France Télévisions were unveiling a first teaser image of the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas star at Louis XV showing Depp in a side profile with a blindfold coving his eyes.
The movie will also star Benjamin Lavernhe, Melvil Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Greggory, and Noémie Lvovsky.
Johnny Depp And Amber Heard – Settle Lawsuit
This film will be Johnny Depp’s first feature film in three years in the wake of his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. In December, the pair reached a settlement and decided to terminate their respective appeals.
Heard agreed to pay $1 million and said in a statement, “I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.”
In their own statement, Depp’s lawyers said, “We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light. The jury’s unanimous decision and the resulting judgment in Mr. Depp’s favor against Ms. Heard remain fully in place.
The payment of $1 million — which Mr. Depp is pledging and will donate to charities — reinforces Ms. Heard’s acknowledgment of the conclusion of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”
