Right now, Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is in the headlines each day in the ongoing defamation trial against Amber Heard. He is suing the Aquaman actress for $15 million for her op-ed in the Washington Post, claiming that he abused her. While the Pirates of the Caribbean actor lost a number of opportunities over the op-ed, he is finally making his cinematic comeback. Read on to find out more about Depp’s role in Jeanne Du Barry, set to launch at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Johnny Depp – And A New Movie
It has been a while since Johnny Depp has appeared in any new movies, but that is set to change. While the defamation trial against his former wife, Amber Heard, continues, the Rum Diary star will make his comeback, playing the role of French King Louis XV in French director Maïwenn’s new film. Moreover, this is the first movie Depp has made in three years.
While Depp, 58, has been in the UK during a trial break, he wasn’t relaxing but is getting ready for his role in the new film, Jeanne Du Barry. Meanwhile, the upcoming movie is set to release at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival for pre-sales.
The new movie tells the story of Jeanne Bécu, played by Maïwenn herself. She managed to rise up from her poverty-stricken beginnings to become the mistress of King Louis XV. As per Deadline, other stars in the movie include Pierre Richard, Louis Garrel and Noemie Lvovsky in major roles. However, so far, no release date has been announced for the movie.
Johnny Depp – About The Depp/Heard trial
Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for $50 million over the op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post claiming domestic abuse. While she didn’t mention Depp’s name, he was quickly dropped from a number of acting roles, including his iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
During the trial, the Tourist actor spoke of the movie franchise, saying he would have liked his character to have closure, rather than just dropping him from the role. Meanwhile, Johnny resigned from his role as Grimes Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series.
Ironically, Heard is now being targeted by a petition, demanding that she be dropped from her role in the second Aquaman movie. Recently, that petition reached over 4 million signatures of its 4.5 million goal.
In the meantime, the Independent reports that Heard has claimed her role has been pared down since the trial began. She said, “They basically took a bunch out of my role.”
