MTV doesn’t seem like a place where Johnny Depp would feel at home. But in the wake of his struggles with Amber Heard, Depp seems to have developed a new attitude toward life. And so Johnny has talked with MTV about a surprise appearance, revealed TMZ.

As a result, when the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) airs later this year, get ready to see Depp portray Moonman for the very first time. And for those who think that Johnny can’t measure up to the challenge, consider his history. For instance, the actor transformed himself into J.M. Barrie for Finding Neverland. And Depp charmed audiences as Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

However, no word yet on whether Johnny came up with the idea of playing Moonman or if MTV execs persuaded him. But either way, VMA production sources spilled the secret. And Depp has already begun figuring out how to take on the persona of MTV’s famed Moonman. Just one note. The show’s producers also have decided to go for the politically correct new name of Moonperson. But based on what insiders say about Johnny’s new role, it seems no one remembers to use that PC new name!

Johnny Depp Plans To Dress Up As MTV’s Moonman At VMAs

However, given that dressing up as a Moonman (or gender neutral Moonperson) may take elaborate costumes and makeup, we wonder if audiences will even recognize Johnny Depp! But show producers promise that Depp will indeed show his face during the MTV VMAs. The highly anticipated award show will air on August 28.

And Johnny has appeared on the VMA stage before. For instance, he took home MTV Movie Awards for Best Male Performance, Best Villain, and Global Superstar. And in 2012, Depp won the Generation Award in 2012.

Meanwhile, while the actor figures out how to portray Moonman, he has returned to his beloved movie-making. And Depp also recently unveiled a new contract with Dior. That contract gives Johnny a multiple-year deal estimated at 7 figures to publicize the Sauvage fragrance line. As for whether the MTV VMAs will also result in a new award for Johnny? No news as yet. But Depp seems like a winner already!
