Johnny Depp’s Second Directorial Film ‘Modi’ Snags A Spot At Prestigious Rome Film Fest

Johnny Depp‘s comeback movie ‘Jeanne Du Barry’ may not be among the most successful movies when it premiered last year, but his directorial comeback may well be. So far, it’s managed to secure the “Capri Cult Award 2024” for its portrayal of the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

Johnny Depp’s ‘Modi’ To Be the Highlight of Rome Film Fest

‘Modi: Three Days On the Wings on Madness’ has secured a spot on the Rome Film Fest as the closer to the otherwise modest ten-day event. It will be aired on Saturday, Oct. 26, and you can bet fans can’t wait for the star to arrive.

He will likely be joined by stars Al Pacino, Riccardo Scamarcio and Antonia Desplat for the event. ‘Modi’ premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival and follows Modi on a remarkable three-day journey that saw the intersection of art, passion, pride, sacrifice and love.

But that’s not all the excitement that ‘Modi’ is expecting, as, at a different event from the film fest, it will be presented the coveted Capri Cult Award.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that ‘Modi’s’ producer Barry Navidi, a long-time friend of Al Pacino, will pick up the award on Friday night from the Capri Institute.

The Institute is a non-profit organization that organizes an annual film fest on the eponymous island. It is followed by the annual Capri Fest, which will begin on Dec. 27 this year.

Depp has been praised for the nuanced storytelling and dialogue play he employed to bring the movie to live. Apart from the stellar casting, it has received praise for the degree of emotions the movie is able to conjure as viewers follow Modi on a wild three day journey.

What ‘Modi’s’ Stars Have Said About Working With Johnny Depp

The movie’s stars also joined in praising Depp’s genius, with Scamarcio saying that he has “heart and trust.” He added to The Hollywood Reporter, “[Depp] puts you in a position where you feel free to deliver whatever you want but then he drives you with very smart and precise indications. It’s fantastic, because you feel free, but safe.”

Desplat agreed, saying, “He does imitations of characters and people all the time, and so you see all these different characters that he’s played over the years come alive as he’s directing us and demonstrates what he wants, sometimes just when he’s speaking about it, because he gets passionate. So I think the director and the actor just merged into one thing.”
