Johnny Depp – “Drowning” Amber Heard: Johnny Depp To Defend His Comments In Law Court
Johnny Depp, 58, and Amber Heard, 35, met each other while filming “The Rum Diary” together in 2009. After dating for three years, they tied the knot in 2015, only to be divorced a year later.
Depp is currently suing Heard in a defamation lawsuit that accuses Heard of destroying his career by penning an article in the Washington Post in 2018 where she detailed being a victim of “sexual violence”.
In court documents, the bitter exes listed in their Exhibit List a text message exchanged between Depp and his friend, actor Paul Bettany, 50.
“I’m not sure we should burn Amber. She is delightful company and pleasing on the eye. We could of course do the English course of action and perform a drowning test. Thoughts? You have a swimming pool,” Paul texted to Johnny in 2013, referring to Amber. Johnny wrote replied, “Let’s drown her before we burn her,” to which Paul responded, “My thoughts entirely. Let’s be certain before we pronounce her a witch.”
This text conversation also appeared in Depp’s lawsuit against the U.K. outlet, The Sun. Depp sued the media publication for referring to him as a “wife beater” in one of their articles published in 2018. He lost the lawsuit after the court determined that the claims made in the piece were “substantially true”.
That same year, the “Aquaman” star detailed her story of surviving “sexual abuse” in an opinion piece she penned for The Washington Post. She did not mention Depp in the article, but Depp’s lawyers insist it was damaging nonetheless because everyone knew who she was referring to.
Less than one week after the article went live, Depp was dropped from two of his biggest upcoming movies, including a sequel of the popular franchise “Pirates of the Carribbean”, in which he starred in as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp – Legendary Director Speaks Out About The Johnny Depp Controversy
Legendary actor and director John Waters, know for such films as “Hairspray”, “Serial Mom”, and “Seed Chucky”, recently defended Depp from accusations of violence against women.
The director, who worked with Johnny Depp on Cry-Baby (1990) when he was still at the beginning of his rise to stardom, staunchly defended the actor.
“There are people I would like to cancel, but at the same time I’m saying it humorously,”he told The New York Times. “I’m not going to go through each person who’s been cancelled and say what I think, but I never saw Johnny Depp act negatively to a woman in my entire life – and I did drugs and got drunk with him.”
