Jon Bon Jovi is dead is the latest rumor that’s been ravaging the internet in recent days. So basically he’s the latest celebrity to be targeted by this form of internet lunacy where famous people go to die… virtually, at least.

In the real world, they’re usually fine. But in Bon Jovi’s case, his death news was more than just a stupid little rumor. Here’s what caused it.

Why Do People Think Jon Bon Jovi Is Dead

Jon Bon Jovi is not dead. Let’s say that and just get it out of the way. What we’ve been seeing online is merely the product of mass confusion, and even hysteria if you should dive deeper.

The obituary that sparked these rumors actually belonged to a Greek-American artist who made cover art for Bon Jovi’s albums, Loannis Vasilopoulos.

Following his death on April 7, the artist’s family issued a statement that read: “We announce with heavy hearts the passing of Ioannis, our beloved artist, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, who has left us for the great beyond.”

“We find comfort knowing that Ioannis is reunited with his father, mother and other beloved family and friends. The outpouring of love for Ioannis and his work is also a great comfort,” the statement continued.

The memorial further noted that the designer, who has lent his expertise to the cover arts of other iconic bands, “was influenced by American comic books, animation, fantasy art, and rock music.

The music led to his admiration of album cover art, specifically Roger Dean known for his work with the band YES and the many album covers of designer Storm Thorgerson (Hipgnosis). The inspiration led Ioannis to design and paint many covers.”

Though there’s not anything in this that depicts the said deceased person as rockstar Bon Jovi, the rumors of Bon Jovi’s death started going viral around the same time as this announcement.

While the singer, 63, is yet to officially deny these rumors or even declare his well-being, sources close to him have since confirmed that he is alive and well.
