Josh Duhamel Talks Finding Happiness Away From Fame

Josh Duhamel is living the off-grid life – you know, the one that scares more than half of us to death – and loving it.

He loves that it gets to be just him and his family and that there is no distractions from anyone or anything, including all these new fangled modern technology – geez I sound like my mom, where did that come from? (*Imagine I said that in Emma Stone’s ‘Easy A’ voice and you’d get the drift.)

Back to Duhamel, the actor simply loves to be in a quiet place and he luckily found his dream place “deep in the woods” of Minnesota.

I have seen stars do the weirdest things, like Amanda Seyfried has a farm and she legit loves it. And what about our very own Millie Bobby Brown owning an assortment of animals with her husband Jake Bongiovi? Ian Somerhalder has quit acting. And Josh Duhamel, 52, has found his quiet place. Hmm…wish it were up to me to retire whenever I want, but alas, no.

The ‘Safe Haven’ star shared some of the reasons he chose seclusion over big city life, and they’re so good and reasonable that it might get you thinking of turning a new leaf – the Josh Duhamel leaf.

“Part of the reason I built my place out in Minnesota, deep in the woods, is it’s removed from everything,” he told Parade during their interview.

“The closest store is 40 miles away,” he explained. “Once we get there, it’s really about everybody taking care of each other – making memories, spending time with family and friends.”
It may have taken years to build this tranquil heaven but to Duhamel, it was all worth it.

“You’re not consumed by all these other distractions,” he told the outlet. “When you’re out there, it’s really about having fun, making sure everybody’s warm, everybody’s got food and water.”

Duhamel usually spends time at the Minnesota property with his wife Audra Mari and their 1-year-old son Sheperd. His 11-year-old son with ex Fergie also occasionally spends time at the home.

With no distractions to keep him from actually enjoying playtime with his kids, Duhamel is convinced they’re having the best memories together at the property.

“My son is going to have memories of this place forever. He’s not on his iPad when he’s out there,” he said of his son Axl. “He’s out there in the boat with me, or he’s playing soccer on the beach, or he’s out there in the woods doing whatever I’m doing.”

“And then I have a little baby who’s going to experience the same thing. Someday, I hope to pass this on to them [so] they’re able to share it with their kids. It’s really important to me that they have this. It’s not just about having all the amenities and all the luxuries that we become so used to. It’s really about family. It’s about legacy,” he added.

Duhamel had previously revealed that he hated walking the red carpets and never quite got comfortable with being in the spotlight. So I guess he found his dream place. It’s all we’re searching for, isn’t it?
