What Did The National Enquirier Say About Judge Judy That Was So Wrong?
Judy Sheindlin, more famously known as Judge Judy, has sued the parent company of the National Enquirier and InTouch Weekly on Monday for running a story that accused her of trying to help the Menendez brothers get a retrial after they were convicted of murdering their parents.
Per the lawsuit, the story in contention first appeared on InTouch Weekly’s website under the headline, “Inside Judge Judy’s Quest to Save the Menendez Brothers Nearly 35 Years After Their Parents’ Murder.”
Another version of this story later appeared in the National Enquirer, InTouch’s sister publication also owned by Accelerate360 Media. When the Menendez murders happened in Beverly Hills, California, in 1989, it caused a media furor at the time.
However, Judy specifically insists she’s since said nothing about the case. Her lawsuit also speculated that perhaps the outlets had used statements in a Fox Nation docuseries made by “Judi Ramos,” a woman who is attributed as an alternate juror in the first Menendez trial, and wrongly attributed them to the television judge.
Whichever type of mistake they made, Judy is sure of one thing and that is that it’s going to cost them.
“When you fabricate stories about me in order to make money for yourselves with no regard for the truth or the reputation I’ve spent a lifetime cultivating, it’s going to cost you,” she said in a statement. “When you’ve done it multiple times, it’s unconscionable and will be expensive. It has to be expensive so that you will stop.”
At the moment, there’s no specification as to the amount she’s requesting in damages, but if Judy says it’s going to be expensive, then it’s sure to be.
This isn’t the first time that Judge Judy has found herself at loggerheads with the National Enquirer. In 2017, the outlet was forced to retract and apologize for a story that falsely claimed Judy suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and also cheated on her husband.
